Where to begin?

My youngest daughter lives in Ohio USA with her American hubby and a 4 year old daughter. As they were expecting a new baby in March 2020, we decided to take the trip over and be with them for the birth.

There was some talk on the news about a new virus coming out of China, but no serious alarm bells, I certainly wasn’t going to cancel my trip. Every day we jump in the car and take a drive there are risks. Every year I risk getting the flu, and I thought the media was probably blowing it all out of proportion anyway. Didn’t we all?

On February 28th we flew out from Melbourne, via Sydney to Dallas, Texas and then on to Dayton Ohio. We enjoyed being in Economy plus for the first time, definitely worth the extra cash to have the comfort!

I suffer a bit of anxiety and I am not a keen flyer due to a mild case of claustrophobia. I can't sleep or poop when travelling, but I am sure I am not alone there. There was plenty of nanna naps and I made good use of the media, swapping between movies and soothing music. You know I can’t even remember what I watched now, it all seems so long ago.

A nice surprise was Corey, (one of my big grandies, Terry's son) was working at the airport that night and escorted us through the airport to meet up with the rest of the family. It was wonderful to hold my daughter Breona again. Although it had only been 2 and a bit years, it has sometimes felt much longer due to her being so far away. Big bear hugs from my son in law Terry are always reassuring. Our granddaughter, dear little JJ wasn't sure who we were.

Snow! It was quite a contrast as we had left Aus in late summer and suddenly it was the last day of winter. Did I mention snow? Love it!

A short drive, a few tears and hugs later with our other big grandie Brandon, we were able to collapse and sleep, sort of!
